Description:
This original black forest farm clock depicts an important part oft the black forest cuckoo clock history. Based on old public records, the Schneider family began making cuckoo clocks in their own farm house in 1848. Black forest families carved cuckoo clocks during the hard and long winters and deep snow kept them inside. The clock peddlers then carried the clocks to far away countries and sold them during the summer. Even with today’s automated technology, Schneider clocks are still skillfully created by hand. This process has not changed in modern times. Typical of the 1850’s are the water driven saw mills, the wood cutter and the clock peddler. This 8-day musical clock plays every full hour alternating two melodies “Edelweiss and Happy Wanderer” with a Swiss made musical movements with 36 notes. As the music plays the dancers rotate, the waterwheel turns and the saw moves back and forth. Schneider’s automatic night shut off feature turns the music and the cuckoo of for a restful sleeping. Dial, hands, numerals and cuckoo bird are all made of wood and indicate the quality of Schneider workmanship. Size: 21x20"

Manufacturer
This clock is manufactured by Schneider in the Town of Schonach in the Black Forest.

Height: 52 cm = 20"
The height of a clock is measured from the very top (for example at the top of the antlers on hunter-style clocks) to the bottom of the clock. The weights and the pendulum do NOT count when measuring the height.

Night shut-off
This clock comes with a manual night shut-off. It is either a switch on one side of the clock, or a little wire under the clock. You can use it to turn the cuckoo on and off.

General Information: Hands and dial
In the past, hands and the numbers on the faces were made of the antlers of deer. But in this century there were too few deer in the forests and too many people who wanted a cuckoo clock, so the clockmakers decided to use plastic for the hands. Almost all cuckoo clocks were made with plastic hands after that. Today they have the new possibility to cut the hands out of a wooden plate with a laser.

We will ship our clocks with wooden hands whenever possible, even clocks that do not mention wooden hands in the description may ship with wooden hands.

With this clock we can not guarantee for wooden hands and dial. We will send it with wooden hands and dial if possible.

General Information: Delivery-Time
This item is shipped directly from Germany. Delivery takes about 3-4 weeks. Please note that we have to rely on 3rd parties like the cuckoo clock manufacturers and the mail. It is quite hard to predict exactly when a clock will arrive. If you need a clock for a special occasion (e.g. Christmas or a Birthday) and the clock cannot be delivered on time, we can send a letter with a picture of the clock and a text of your choice to announce the arrival of the clock. This service is free of charge.

General Information: Possible differences between our clocks and the pictures on the website (for Schneider clocks)
Please note that on some clocks there may be slight differences between the picture on the web and the actual clock. For example there may or may not be "Made in Germany" engraved in the clock's dial. This depends on the manufacturer, and we have no control over this.

The exact color of stained (brown) clocks is always a little different. The process of staining the wood sometimes produces a little lighter or darker results. Some of the pictures that we have on our website show the clocks with (white) plastic hands. We will ship the clocks with wooden hands whenever possible, since we have made the experience that most of our customers prefer this. Clocks that mention wooden hands in the description will ALWAYS ship with wooden hands. Clocks that do not mention this MAY ship with wooden hands, but we can not guarantee this.

The color of the wooden hands is a light brown. If you rather want the white plastic hands please leave a note for us in the "special wishes" field when ordering.Currently on many Schneider clocks, the simple dancers (left) replaced by much more detailed ones (right). Some clocks on our website may still show the old version while the actual clock already ships with the new dancers. This also applies to some other moving figures. All of those changes are improvements, the figures used today are more detailed (and more valuable) than the old ones. We will update our website as soon as current pictures are available.
